ABSTRACT

The OASIS project aims at fulfilling market potential of nano-enabled multifunctional lightweight composites, particularly polymer-matrix and aluminium composites. OASIS combines the manufacturing capacity of 12 pilot lines for the industrial production of nanoscale structures in unprocessed form, intermediate products with nanoscale features and nano-enabled products as well as other complementary technical (modelling, characterization, toxicology, life cycle assessment) and business (innovation coaching, planning, access to private capital) services. These modular services will be provided to companies, particularly SMEs, to give them access to unique facilities and knowledge without high capital investment. Such support is particularly needed at the crossroads between three Key Enabling Technologies (nanotechnologies, advanced materials and advanced manufacturing and processing) and in the area of multifunctional products where extensive know-how is needed for pre-production or low-volume industrial production. The multi-pilot line manufacturing capacity of OASIS will be validated by 6 industrial showcases with lightweight products (TRL6-7) ensuring significant impact in the construction, automotive, energy and aeronautic industries. OASIS will set up an economically sustainable open innovation structure, leveraging the previous investments for the full benefit of European companies introducing new added-value products based on nanotechnologies.

TMBK PARTNERS’ ROLE IN THE PROJECT

TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS spin-off, TMBK Partners Sp. z o.o., participates in the project as the owner of a pilot line for the production of thermoplastic nonwoven veils doped with carbon nanotubes (CNT). The CNT-doped veils are characterised by good electroconductivity and are thus suitable for use in the production of composite materials as: a) surface finishing, improving electrical conductivity; b) interlayers, improving electrical conductivity and mechanical properties by preventing the delamination. CNT-doped veils are being used in OASIS industrial demonstrations involving corporates from the aviation, automotive and construction sectors. The pilot line is being scaled up and automated in order to provide industrial volumes of a high quality product at a market acceptable price.
